A cozy morning of creativity, community, and moonlit canvases.

Hosting my very first official community painting class was a milestone I’ll never forget.I’ve taught before — including the Guinea Pig Fundraiser — but this class was something new. It was the beginning of a series of creative, welcoming sessions designed simply for the joy of painting together.
The room filled with laughter, quiet focus, and that unmistakable spark that happens when people create side by side.

From the moment everyone settled in with their brushes and palettes, I could feel the energy shift. Some participants arrived with experience, others with curiosity, and a few with a little nervousness — but once the first strokes of Morning Moonlight went onto the canvases, the room softened. Conversations started. Smiles appeared. Creativity took over.

Throughout the class, I moved from table to table, offering support, cheering people on, and watching each version of the painting take on its own personality. Even though we all followed the same steps, every canvas told a slightly different story. That’s the magic of community art — the shared experience, the individual expression.

One of my favorite parts of the morning was seeing everyone fully immersed in the process. Blending clouds, shaping mountains, adding those glowing moonlit reflections — each painter found their own rhythm.
And somewhere in the middle of all that blending, I realized there was an unexpected star of the morning: the paper plate palette. Simple, unassuming, and absolutely essential. Every swirl of gold, every soft gray cloud, every moonlit highlight started right there on a little white plate. It was the quiet helper that kept the class moving — the unsung hero of Morning Moonlight.

By the end, the tables were covered in paint‑splattered palettes, half‑empty cups of rinse water, and canvases that shimmered with gold and shadow. The creative chaos was beautiful.

The room buzzed with concentration and little bursts of excitement as details came together. It was the kind of atmosphere that makes you forget time entirely.

Watching each person interpret Morning Moonlight in their own way was a reminder of why I wanted to start these classes in the first place — to create a space where art feels accessible, calming, and joyful.

When we gathered for group photos, the pride in the room was unmistakable. Holding up their finished pieces, everyone beamed — not just because of the artwork, but because of the experience we created together.
This first class was a beginning — a soft launch into a series of community‑centered sessions where anyone can paint, unwind, and connect.
To everyone who joined me: thank you for making this milestone so special.
And don’t forget: I’ll be at First Friday at Mountain Standard Company. If you’re out and about, please stop by and say hello. I’d love to see you.
Here’s to many more mornings of creativity, community, and moonlit canvases.
